First TIDES advanced training school

SEISMIC DATA: RETRIEVAL, MANAGEMENT, AND FORWARD MODELLING

Bertinoro (IT) 1-5 June 2015

The First TIDES Training School addresses seismic data, information contained in them, and how to make the best use of them. It is an advanced school, mainly addressed to PhD students and young scientists but open to everyone who interested. It will be structured with lectures in the morning, and practical hands-on training in the afternoons, with application to a real case where trainers will be asked to actively contribute.

The First TIDES Training School took place on June 1–5, 2015 at the Centro Residenziale Universitario(ceub.it), a training centre of the University of Bologna located in the ancient town of Bertinoro (Forlì-Cesena, Italy).

Topics

Seismic data: traditional and new observations (sea buoys, rotations …)
Seismic noise: origin and impact on records
Tools for managing seismic data: ObsPy
Earth model representation: homogenisation, computational mesh generation
Numerical methods, basic principles
Synthetic seismogram computation: normal modes, SPECFEM, AxiSEM, …
Practical training on a real case Time-variable earth structure
