Third TIDES advanced training school
SEISMIC TOMOGRAPHY: FROM DATA ANALYSIS TO INVERSION, RESULTS, AND UNCERTAINTY ESTIMATES
Oxford (UK) 10-14 July 2017
The focus of the third TIDES Advanced Training School was seismic tomography: from data analysis to inversion, results and uncertainty estimates.
The school took place in Oxford, United Kingdom, at Wolfson College, from 10 July to 14 July 2017.
Main lecturers included some of the best experts in the field: Thomas Bodin (Ecole Nationale Supérieure, Lyon), Yann Capdeville (Université de Nantes), Andrew Curtis (University of Edinburg), Paula Koelemeijer (University of Oxford), Sergei Lebedev (Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies), Nicholas Rawlinson (University of Aberdeen), James Rickett (Schlumberger Gould Research Center Cambridge), Johan Robertsson (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich) and Jean Virieux (Université Josef Fourier, Grenoble).
Practical hands-on sessions, devoted to experiencing software on various tomographic techniques, transdimensional inversion, and numerical approaches, were also part of the program.
The school was sponsored by Guralp Systems Ltd, Schlumberger, and the International Seismological Centre (ISC), who also actively contributed to the training program.
Career-oriented topics, through advice and discussions co-organised by Laura Parisi and Lucia Gualtieri, were addressed as part of Early-Career Scientists initiatives of the Seismological Section of the European Geosciences Union (EGU).
In addition to Trainers and Speakers, poster and short talk presentations by the participants were welcomed.
Organising committee: Andrea Morelli, Tarje Nissen-Meyer, Andreas Fichtner, Julie Baron.
